Nara Wood - Artist - Watercolors on Silk

A gallery of watercolors on silk and limited edition fine art prints.

Water Series: Watercolors permit both subtle and playful approaches to water while silk canvasses provide a light and fluid quality. "Water has been a constant in my life. Island life suits me. If I am living on the mainland, then it must be on the coast, or at least near water. Most of my paintings of water are of places I have lived."

Ikebana Series: Still lifes depicting contemporary approaches to this traditional art form. "Ikebana is creating sculpture with flowers and other natural elements. The sculptural character of ikebana has informed my painting by adding a heightened awareness of three-dimensional form, line, and positive and negative space."

Other Work: Watercolors celebrating the American landscape. "In recent years I have been able to discover much of the American West. One could spend a lifetime exploring the peaks and canyons. These are paintings that cover a variety of subjects from road trips, day trips, to my own backyard."

Learn more about Nara Wood. "I love the mixing of colors, the feel of brush on silk, the moment of discovery, and the push-and-pull of bringing an image to life. I combine what I see with what I imagine. Still, none of my paintings are imaginary. They are enhanced with imagination and dreams I have had. We all know places of dreams and extraordinary beauty. These are some that I know."
